Panasonic Connect Launches New Service "VeriMe"
“My Number” card identity verification with iPhone now possible
Strengthening the lineup of identity verification services to support various face-to-face and online usage scenarios
Panasonic Connect Co., Ltd. announced that it will launch VeriMe
Panasonic Connect Co., Ltd. announced that it will launch VeriMe (hereinafter referred to as the "Service") as a new means of identity verification for various situations such as face-to-face and online, by the end of this summer.
This service was developed in response to the Digital Agency's "Announcement of the Start of Providing My Number Cards for iPhone*1" in anticipation of the addition of various official ID functions to smartphones in the future. By introducing it by businesses that require identity verification, it will be possible to use the My Number Card information added to the iPhone easily, quickly, and safely. For example, identity verification in various face-to-face and online situations, such as age verification at stores and online account opening, can be done with a single smartphone, contributing to improving convenience for businesses and users
Achievements in the field of identity verification
We have been widely developing solutions and services using official identification cards. For example, we are contributing to safe and efficient identity verification in all industries through the provision of "facial recognition gates" that verify immigration status using passports and facial recognition, which are used at seven airports nationwide, and "card readers with facial recognition," online identity verification terminals for medical institutions and pharmacies.
We have also been involved in the standardization of international standards (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC17) in the field of digital ID since 2014, and our experts are responsible for compiling the test standards for mobile driver's licenses.
Leveraging our experience and knowledge of such strict identity verification, the new service "VeriMe" provides an even more convenient and secure identity verification mechanism.
Overview of the official mobile ID authentication service "VeriMe"
This service is a platform service for businesses that require identity verification. By using VeriMe, businesses can easily and quickly develop a system to securely read iPhone My Number card information.
For users, there is no need to carry an ID card or enter a password when using it, and identity verification is completed with a single smartphone, so it realizes speedy and highly secure identity verification. This greatly improves user convenience in various scenarios, whether face-to-face or online, such as opening accounts at financial institutions, administrative procedures, shopping and purchasing tickets, for example. In addition, for businesses, it will reduce the cost and workload associated with identity verification, as well as reduce the mental burden on staff when verifying their identity.

Features
1. SDK that can be easily implemented in existing systems | By incorporating the "VeriMe" SDK into the existing systems and services of businesses, it is easy to implement identity verification using the iPhone's My Number Card. Our SDK complies with the mdoc data model standard*2 for adding My Number cards to smartphones, reducing development costs and man-hours. In addition, compared to developing all systems in-house, it is possible to reduce the man-hours required for version upgrades and specification changes. |
2. Portal function that allows you to appropriately manage usage status | It provides a portal screen for system administrators, allowing users to manage apps and devices, as well as refer to identity verification history and logs. This allows for usage analysis and quick response in case of issues. Utilizing the knowledge we have cultivated in the identity verification business, we will continue to expand the information and functions required by administrators. |
3. Scalability through linkage with biometric authentication (scheduled to be supported in FY25) | By combining with our face recognition cloud service (KPAS Cloud), it is possible to seamlessly provide identity verification using the iPhone's My Number card and personal authentication using face recognition in a series of processes. This contributes to further security and convenience in the identity verification process. |
Future developments
We plan to expand the supported operating systems and enhance the functions of the portable for administrators (dashboard function that allows you to visually grasp the status of identity verification and fraud detection information, etc., and the function to match with various lists, etc.), and we plan to continue updating it.
In addition, we will strengthen partner cooperation with SIers and SaaS providers that develop services in various fields, and work together to build a system that is easier to use for businesses and users.
NOTE: The VeriMe service is currently only available in Japan.
