Marking Panasonic's Golden Jubilee through an environmental initiative
On 4th June 2024, in commemoration of World Environment Day and Panasonic Asia Pacific’s 50th Anniversary, 34 employees from Singapore’s Panasonic companies gathered for a Tree Planting Event at Pulau Ubin – an island northeast of Singapore. Panasonic Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. that started out as Matsushita Electric Trading Singapore Pte. Ltd. in 1974, has over the years grown its presence in Singapore. Its regional head office supports the whole range of Panasonic’s businesses across the APAC region.
Panasonic Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., like other Panasonic companies globally, is committed to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 300 million tons by 2050. Together with the support from the National Environment Agency (NEA), a total of 50 trees of various species were planted all around Pulau Ubin Island. Some of the species of the trees that were planted were coastal trees (Pittosporum ridleyi), native trees (Ilex cymosa), and endangered native species (Memecylon ovatum) that can be found in rainforests, coastal forests, as well as sandy beaches. Some of the participants shared that tree planting events like these are a great avenue to mitigate the effects of climate change as trees are generally able to provide shade and cool the environment. Apart from that, trees also help to improve air quality and above all, provide habitats for biodiversity.
